Project summary

Art does not hate – celebrating value promoted the role of art and an inclusive multicultural environment in the development of ethnic tolerance in schools. Thus, the project stimulated the intercultural dialogue in schools in order to promote the inclusion of Roma children. At the same time, the project increased awareness on the need to and the efficiency of promoting cultural diversity and dialogue by creating an inclusive educational environment and by increasing the importance of intercultural education in school curricula. It has been widely demonstrated that such measures lead to the development of social inclusion and the improvement of the school results of children of Roma origin.

Public recognition of the artistic achievements of the targeted Roma children was made during the contests organized at the end of the thematic workshops which also included a painting and photography exhibition, as well as throughout a concert - The Interculturality ConcertThe Concert of Values. During this artistic event of large visibility, well promoted both in the central and local mass-media, pupils of Roma, Romanian and other ethnic backgrounds who had taken part in the music workshop, performed on stage alongside well-known professional artists in a concert with diverse, multi-cultural plays, the Concert reaching its objective to demonstrate the essential role that art can play in promoting the values of intercultural education and social inclusion.

Facts & figures

  • 5 intercultural education workshops organized in each of the 5 schools and high schools involved. Training included topics on: cultural and religious diversity in Romania, past and present interferences between Romanian and Roma communities, inclusive education, respect towards disadvantaged groups, prejudices, stereotypes, solutions and the meaning of diversity, tolerance and reciprocal respect from the scholars’ perspective;
  • 1 intercultural concert – The Value Concert – organized with the aim of promoting the role of art in the development of an inclusive and multicultural environment;
  • 1 extended research of the project impact and validation of the proposed solutions against discrimination;
  • 5 thematic workshops in the field of theatre, painting, photography, music and journalism.
