The arts and culture festival Balkanik aimed at bringing to light both the rich cultural traditions of minorities and the most expressive cultural manifestations of these traditions and to disseminate minorities’ stories and culture, offering them an opportunity to exhibit themselves.
Organized for three days, the festival included live concerts of renowned Balkan, European and Norwegian bands, an artisan fair presenting the craftsmanship of Romanian ethnic minorities, visual art exhibitions, illustrating the life and culture of Romanian and Norwegian minorities.
The festival was followed by workshops with:
i) traditional artisans who got acquainted with new marketing techniques, ii) youth belonging to minority groups from child care centers participating in fiddler’s music lessons, iii) aspects of Roma culture highlighted, iv) Romanian artists inspired by the life and culture of Roma people in Romania participating in a collective exhibition hosted by Interkulturelt Museum Oslo.
