Children of Migration - Educational Theater tour in Transylvania

Project summary

The project provided an innovative response to the social problems of children left at home by parents who go to work abroad, using educational theater as a tool to raise awareness on this issue. The theater performance "Offline family" reflected the situation of children left alone at home, and the casting gathered nine children and two professional actors.

The theater performance was presented in Bucharest and in five other counties from Transylvania: Brașov, Mureș, Cluj, Sibiu and Alba. The towns were chosen based on the statistics indicating critical situations of children left behind by parents. Before each performance, the project promoter showcased educational methodology theater and each performance was followed by public debate. The main goal was to promote educational theater as an instrument of cultural education through which children learn to value activism, civic responsibility and participatory democracy.

  • 6 public presentations of the Educational Theatre Methodology in 6 towns from Transylvania: Brașov, Sfântu Gheorghe, Târgu Mureș, Mediaș, Sibiu and Alba Iulia;
  • 6 perforemances of ”Offline family” in 6 towns from Transylvania (Brașov, Sfântu Gheorghe, Târgu Mureș, Mediaș, Sibiu and Alba Iulia) and over 480 participants;
  • 6 debates after the theatre performances in 6 towns from Transylvania (Brașov, Sfântu Gheorghe, Târgu Mureș, Mediaș, Sibiu and Alba Iulia);
  • 2 books re-edited and distributed to the public: „Offline family. Educational theatre performance” and „Educational theatre. Acting and exercise”.
